ABOUT ME
My name is Lucy and I am passionate about working with trauma. I have a lot of experience of working with trauma and have also done a lot of research and training around it. I find it incredibly rewarding and I am confident that I will be able to hold whatever you bring to the room.
I have personal experience of trauma, loss and bereavement which I believe gives me understanding of how you are feeling and enables me to sit with you with the pain of it. I know how overwhelming it is to function in a new world which is dramatically altered.
I have previously worked as a counsellor in a 6th form college and I really enjoy working with and learning from young people. I have experience of working with adults & young people across a wide range of presenting issues including depression and anxiety, trauma, self-harm and suicide ideation, low self-esteem, relationship issues, sexual identity, neurodiversity and BPD.
In my spare time I enjoy spending time walking my dogs, being in nature and practising yoga.
HOW I WORK
I am a qualified humanistic gestalt counsellor and therapist. I am also trained in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT). My therapeutic approach is integrative which means that I will work in the most appropriate way for you, to help you achieve your goals. Together we will agree what you aim to achieve in therapy, and your timeframe, and we will work towards that intention. Every session is led by what you are bringing.
I always start by forming a relationship with you using humanistic principles of openness, transparency and empathy. I offer a calm, safe and non-judgemental space where you will be comfortable to share whatever you want to bring.
Gestalt therapy means that we will explore your emotions in the here and now. If appropriate, I may introduce some creative techniques such as sand trays, 2-chair, role-play, cards or metaphors to explore your way of relating.
I might introduce specific Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) techniques which are solution orientated. This enables us to look at your thoughts and how they connect to your behaviours in order to bring about concrete changes. I will usually give you some techniques to continue to practise between sessions such as journaling or thought records.
